Air Compressor Requirements for Coates 40 40A Tire Machine

Hey guys- looking for a recommendation. I'm looking at picking up a Coates 40 40 A tire machine just for replacing old truck tires, tractor tires, all things around the barn, etc. Other than this load, my shop requirements are general automotive repair - impact wrench, air hammer, die grinding. I don't do much/ hardly any painting (not professional high dollar finishes) and no sandblasting. My question is can I get away with a generic 60-gallon single stage 3.7 HP compressor or do I need an 80 gallon two stage? thanks!

A generic compressor should handle that machine easily as that machine does not need a lot of CFM to operate.

I have a Coats RC10A... which is similar to your machine, and runs fine on a 60 gallon 135 psi compressor.. i dont jnow what the cfm output is but the machine doesnt really care as it has a buffer tank on board as well (thats used as a buffer, and for the bead blaster). As long as you're not 18 yrs old and trying to race to see how many tires you can mount/dismount then you shouldnt really worry about cfm rating. Heck, im sure a 30 gallon compressor could run the thing for "farm use"..

I was smart enough to run my 10-10 with a 30 gallon tank and a Ford a/c compressor...
