Air compressor rust problem.

I am rebuilding my 4 cylinder 7.5 hp 2 stage air compressor. Compressor has 258 hours on it. The high pressure intake valves and the tops of the high pressure cylinders have some rust on them. Does anyone have any solutions to stop this??

My Quincy compressors has carbon steel valves as most(valved) compressors do. Unless you have completely dry intake air, you will get rust on the valves from condensation. The only solution is to mill or obtain stainless steel valves, never seen anyone offering stainless valves for common retail compressors. Unless a compressor is used often with little time to cool you will get rust.

My Quincy had rust on the valves when I bought it. I called the company that I bought it from and told them that it would leak down overnight. They sent a service tech to check it out. Told me that it's normal and that they develop rust on the valves, which prevents them from making a 100% air-tight seal. Almost 30 years later, it is still running perfectly and was one of the best investments that I have made, except for my Apple stock.
