I need to out fit my shop with a stationary compressor which will be installed outside with all the required piping and drains to deal with moisture. I will probably have 4-6 drops with at least two hose reels. I do not have a bead cabinet. I do not plan to have one but you never know what the future holds. I do want to try paint, therefore, sanding is in my future as well. This would be mostly for the basic pneumatic tools (read all of them) most likely used one at a time but the kids will be getting into wrenching their own cars in a few years so possibly two or more ratchets or impacts. I do not think two sanders or paint and sand would be happening simultaneously. I am wire for 230v.

Here is what I am looking at.

Westward stationary Two Stage Air Compressors. Both are 5hp, 230v, single phase, 60 gallon vertical tank, maximum working pressure of 175psi @ 14.5cfm.

This unit has a cast iron pump. The cfm DOES NOT increase with a reduction of psi according the Grainger website. It is a used and the price is $650.

Is this going to be adequate and is anyone familiar with this product? Parts seem to be readily available.

One thing i want to point out is you say you plan on painting... For example the cfm consumption on my satas is right at 18ish cfm.. lots of people say i dont plan on blasting but dont realize paint guns take bout near as much air as a blaster.

I guess I dont know what is available/common as far as sprayers go. Everything I have read states "what will you be using and what is the requirement of it," well the problem is I dont know. I just built the shop I have always wanted. The one where my kids will not have to wrench in the dirt. I even splurged on a two post car lift. I want toys(914 w/v8, fat tires and flared fenders) Old school bimmers for the kids. A place for there friends to wrench their cars. etc. etc. I only want to buy once. I do not want to go the big box route on this one. I think that would be a mistake, but my budget is limited to a used unit in the range of +-$600. Based on my research thus far the distribution system is more important than the compressor and I will be a few hundred dollars into that as well.
