Air compressor slows to a stop

here's my problem, i have an older craftsman 5hp 20gal 220v compressor that i picked up for 50 bucks that needed some TLC. now that everything is working electrically, the compressor gets up to around 30psi and slowly and steadily comes to a stop. when i disconnected the line to the tank she ran fine so i checked the valve in the tank and it seems to work like its supposed to. any ideas?

Sounds like a weak motor. Try replacing the run cap on the motor, or at least check to see that it is connected.

dang, thats another 30 bucks I didn't want to spend. But Im determined to get this thing running!

well I ordered a new run Cap. for $16 which included shipping. Dont know when its gonna get here, hopefully sometime early this week. I'll keep yall posted.
