Air compressor tank change question

I have a question for the air compressor guys here. I have a Speedair 30 gallon 2 hp, 5.7 cfm @ 90psi and 4.6 cfm @ 135psi that has a horizontal tank that is not mobile. I want a vertical tank to save room, that don't have to be mobile necessarily.

I see 60 gallon tanks come up for sale here and there but never a 30 gallon unless it is a oil-less compressor and they don't have the mounting plate set up for a oil bath compressor.

My question is if I put my pump/motor on a 60 gallon tank how will it behave? Will it stay the same once the pressure drops and the compressor kicks in? Will the pressure drop?

86k10, I must have started with the same 2hp speedair compressor as you. Mine had a hole in the tank after many years of use. I found a 60 gal. tank close to home and at a good price. I have had NO problem with this set up in the last couple of years. I had an issuse with mounting the pump and motor on the tank, so what i did was cut the mount off the horizontal tank and just bolted it to the top of the newer tank, no welding.

Nothing preventing you from separating the pump/motor from the tank. Build a shelf under bench and put the pump/motor there. The horizontal tank can get mounted up on shelf up near the ceiling. If you need more volume of air stored, add a cheap 20 or 30 gal horizontal tank up near ceiling like the other one. Your pump will just run more if you add tank size, but that all depends on demand you put on it. I sure wouldn't try sand blasting with small pump.

What airline system do you have?? Now would be good time to plan something that would have your shop covered and incorporate the copper or black-pipe steel from pump to the tank (include a short section of hydraulic hose for vibration). Good luck.

I don't have a garage, just a carport. It is in the "utility closet". And the airline system is a 25' hose. I don't have a problem with where it is I just like to take less floor footprint and go vertical.
