air compressor trouble shooting

hey guys i got a question and need some insight here
i bought a 26 gal craftsman 160 psi
ran it through the proper break-in period as suggested in the manual
closed the valves, started filling it up
when the tank reached where the shutoff point should be the safety relief opened

i looked in the manual and it says contact a certified service tech but to be honest i hate talking to those wieners.
they always treat you like a child that doesnt know how to fix things

anybody have some insight on how to remediate this issue?

Did the compressor ever turn off?

Did the pressure exceed 160 psig?

the compressor didnt turn off
i wasnt able to check the pressure because i didnt want to push my luck

Is this brand-new? Could you post the model number or a link? I have seen this problem on new Craftsman compressors before. The pressure switches just don't shut off.

that. Tell them to get their f'ing quality control together. That's horseshit a pressure switch fails right off the bat.

If that crappy relief valve decides not to work either, that's one hell of a bomb. Personally, I'm the paranoid ******* that usually installs dual relief valves, just because.

The contacts on the pressure switch could have arched when plugging in the compressor in thus welding them together somewhat. Take a flat head screwdriver and push apart the contacts on the pressure switch to make sure they have welded themselves together. Please unplug the compressor when doing the above procedure

Nissan, if the relief valve failed, the compressor wouldn't explode, it would just keep pumping until someone either shut it off or the motor/pump failed. The tank can take more pressure than the pump is capable of.

A29, this probably is a belt-driven compressor.

That particluar model uses a small sealed pressure switch, like an oil pressure sensor on a car. You can't see the contacts.
We got one of these units brand new at work, and the pressure switch was bad. I ordered another pressure switch, and it was bad, too. I bench tested it with 200 PSI and it did not open. I got a third switch, and haven't been too motivated to test it.

What a POS compressor then. I would never purchase something new with that design. If it was a smoken deal than that something else.

I retracted that statement because after I looked more closely, I saw that his does in fact have a standard external pressure switch. The one I have here looks like the same compressor, but has a tiny pressure sensor inside the cover.

moving on.......the dumbasses just adjusted it wrong (or didnt adjust it ) from the factory
i popped the cap off and twisted the adjustment screw
now she shuts off right at 155

if anybody has an issue with this and would like pics let me know
