Hello - I have a beautiful Quincy QR 325 which I was lucky to find.. Nice and quiet, built like a tank. It only has 3HP right now, and doesn't have sufficient airflow to consistently run my blast cabinet at 80+ PSI. I was looking to upgrade it to 5HP, which would get me about 18+ CFM and run the flywheel at max RPM per specs. This would probably barely make it using a 1/4" nozzel, and I will probably still have to size it down some for continuous use. I am sure I could probably go over, as well as she is built, but why risk it.
Anyhow, It will likely cost me $500-700 to upgrade, after i get a magnetic starter etc and rewire for 3 phase. So I came upon a used mid 90s IMC/BelAir Compressor - model #5312HE. 10HP, 38 CFM. I have a small auto shop, so really this is what I need to do more than one operation at a time. But from my research, its just a splash lube unit, no unloaders (that I can see), probably not built as well as the Quincy, etc. But it does have the magnetic starter, aftercooler and a lot more flow..
Does anyone have any experience with this unit? I can get it for about $1300. It doesn't say BelAire anywhere on it, but maybe they merged with IMC more recently? Would love to upgrade my capacity, figured I may as well just replace my trusty Quincy after finding this deal, but feel guilty
