Just make sure it is PROPERLY filled with the correct (most likely) non-detergent oil. You could run it unloaded for a spell looking to make sure it's not overheating and then run it loaded. I'd change-out the oil after 100 hours if not sooner.

Welcome to the forum.

Didn't the compressor specific manual on the CD include break in info? Its a PDF file.

I just got the 5HP 60 Gal IR last month and the PDF manual from the disk told me to run it with the valve open for 30 minutes to break it in.

The paper book that came with it was generic safety stuff and info for all compressors and really didn't include break in info or any other model specific info.

The disk was attached to the back cover of the book. if you don't have it, give me your model number and I will look it up on my disk.

It should have come with IR synthetic oil, and if you buy the service kit (oil and air filters) IR will extend the warranty.

If it is an SS5N5 Here is the break in info from page 3 of the PDF manual.

I just looked in the two stage file and could only find a normal start procedure, which is to just turn it on.

Hope this helps.

How do you guys like the compressor? Tractor supply has them for 999.99 and with 10% coupon, couldn't beat it. I was thinking of getting one but holding out till after the holidays. How quiet are they? I currently have a 40 gallon snap-on 2 stage.

I bought the 80 gal. 2 stage IR from tractor supply a couple months back. Running black pipe to all my use stations. Really like the unit. Runs all my stuff better than my gal 26 gal Husky did. I now use the Husky at the cemetery main. shop. As far as how loud, I can stand next to it and hold a conversation in a normal tone, but yes you can definitly hear it run. Very quiet compared to oil less. John
