Air Compressor ?

Just picked up a used air compressor this week and am trying to get it set-up. I know very little about them and was wondering what the fitting was all about? Air comes out of it when I kick the compressor on. Any help is appreciated.

if that is the line from the compressor pump to the top of the tank ? (Missing line) it usually goes to a pressure switch to shut off the pump.

That is the unloader port. You need a copper tube that would go to the kick out switch. When the switch turns off it trips the valve to take the pressure off of the pump head, makes for easier start up.

thats what I was thinking in my first post but my HUSKY has it all in the pressure shut off switch assy.

What is your compressor ? Type ? who makes it ? M/N ?

looks like a few things are missing.....if you can not find the parts or they are back ordered then get that P/N and google it some one will have it or an equal....

GOOGLE then..........Just type in the M/N and look around for parts..


On a side note....If this thing is in bad shape I would put a CAP on open line...start compressor and let it run for ONLY 1 minute then Switch it off. DO NOT let it build up too much PRESSURE...then put soapy water solution all over the tank to see if it has pin holes in TANK.(you will find most pin holes bye the WATER drain at bottom) iF it is leaking any place but at Line Fittings, Drain plug your tank is shot and not worth buying other parts. DRAIN air out of the Water Drain when done leak checking...going to get some gunk out of it i bet...

Thats also not a 4hp motor if it is running off of 120v @ 15A. More like a 1hp motor.

FWIW you can buy many ac parts like the switch assy right off Amazon for a fraction of their PN price. Many are generic anyways. On the other hand from the pic I don't even see the pump unit?????? If it's that far gone you will be far better off just buying another one. You can still use that tank with another compressor to hook up in line and boost your air capacity. Of course you could more easily get an old tall 100 LB propane tank and do it easier. Remember one thing. If there is anything that lies more than a politician it's a manufacturer. If they say 4hp its likely maybe 3 . I have a Campbell Hausfield (real German name on a POS Chinese machine) It's 6.5 HP and if it's 4 I would be lucky. FWIW if the compressor portion really is missing forget about adding one. They cost as much as a new unit even from Harbor Freight.

I'll bet it is an oil-less pump attached to the [other] end of

the motor. You can make your own unloader line out of

brake piping of the right size, get a pressure switch w/

unloader on from Amazon, or Ebay for as little as $5 to $10.

Go to the big box and really look at what a compressor

has on it, and how it is put together, then go home and

hope that the compressor will pump up to stated pressure,

or find out if it is a burnt out hunk of junk. Next time round,

make sure the machine runs and shuts off then starts as

advertised before plunking down yer "hard earned/easily spent."
