I have been looking for a air compressor for some time. Been looking at different makes and models. I have been looking at Quincy and Eaton compressors. I was going through Craigslist and came across a Campbell Hausfeld the guy is asking $1000. The Unit was built in 94 from what I can tell. I was wondering how good the Campbell Hausfeld is. I have not done much research on the manufacture. From what the tag says it does 27 CFM at 90 psi.

I am looking for more information about this compressor and how well they hold up.

If you post your location we can look around Craigslist and make suggestions.

Campbell Hausfeld are kind of cheap, they are what's available at Home Depot and Lowe's. Back then the pump was probably made in the U.S.A. Today China is more likely.

$1,000 for a 22 year Campbell Hausfeld seems crazy. Maybe half of that.

A good compressor would be dual stage and rated at 175 PSI.

Eaton are import pumps, some people like them and others don't.

Champion does makes excellent compressors.

Your top brands are Champion "R Series" or "Advantage Series", Gardner Denver "Reward Series" (same as Champion just painted gray), Saylor Beall, Quincy QR series, ...

I am in michigan. I have been talking with the guy and he would take $800. I told him the most I would pay is $700. I really like what I have been reading about the quincy QT-7.5. The money is not the problem. I just need a compressor that meets my needs. I work on semis and restore cars and jeeps.

You are on the right track with a 7.5HP. Ideally it'd have an aftercooler. The best compressors are not available at big box stores. The QT series spins the pumps close to 1,000. The comparable Champions and Saylor Bealls spin around 575-610 RPM. On the used market Kellogg is another name to look at. There are probably half a dozen Craigslist locations in Michigan.

If you can live with 5HP, something like this Quincy QR is a much better deal

Search around for a while in your local area and areas you'd be willing to travel to, or see if the seller will deliver.

Many times you can find 10HP 3 phase. In that case, you can change out the motor to single phase, but big motors are costly, figure about $900. You can also take a 10HP and put on a 7.5HP if you change out the motor sheave to adjust the pump speed.
