Air Compressor

I bought a new air compressor, but it was stored upside down for 3 weeks and it leaked quite a lot of oil. It is still in the unopend original package. Can it be fized and saved? How? Thanks for your help.

Welcome.
Stand it back up and let it sit for a day to allow as much oil to drain back as possible. Refill the oil and run it. Should be just fine

do as above, also if the air filter(s) got oil soaked you should replace them .
and, before you plug it in & fire it up, spin it by hand a few times to make sure the oil hasn't hydrlocked the compressor .
if the belt is oily , probably want to wipe that & the pulleys off with some mineral spirits

Also, after it has been run for a while, when you drain the water out of the tank, you'll get a bunch of icky white stuff. It's just oil and water, no worries.

I don't fully get it. Some say that even transporting a vertical air compressor on the side will destroy it, and here storing it upside down seems to be no problem.
Does anyone have an info graphic or a video link to see what actually happens in this case and where can the oil go?

What about a horizontal air compressor with the wheels. Does it get wrecked if stood upright?

On a side note, I'm wondering how an air compressor could've been stored upside down

To reassure yourself the oil isn't going to cause you a bent rod (or two) you could remove the cyl. head, but it's not necessary. Just manually rotating the pump through a couple revolutions tells you all you need to know, as The Cobbler said. And that oil and water mix, I've always heard it referred-to as 'milkshake.'

no, just rotate it by hand. either direction. as long as it turns without resistance you'll be fine.
and actually, thinking about it again, even if the cyl was full of oil, I think it would spit out into the tank, as there's no closed compression cycle in compressor
