FOR SALE: Air Compressor

Craftsman 6HP/60gallon stand-up air compressor, garaged the entire 19 years. Still running in tip top shape and is run periodically. Paid over $1000.00 brand new(and got ripped off). Asking $400.00.

You need to live close, too big to ship.

Whatever is the true horsepower, it is still a 60 gallon tank, is in excellent condition and needs a new home.

I got a 9 year old garage ran and rarely used devilbiss 80 gallon 2 stage very nice for 460 but that was a great deal for that kind of compressor. I'd say that yours probably 350 400 area if it is in perfect shape

Not to sound like an a-hole,but that motor doesn't look like it's a 6hp.
Is this the peak hp rating or running.
Just wondering, because this will have an effect on the asking price.
Do you remember when they were inflating the hp ratings on compressors ?
Good Luck,
Maybe $350-400

If you were up in Saskatchewan and it was at a farm auction you would get $500-600, some farmers cant keep their hands in their pockets when it comes to air compressors.I have even seen some sell for more than new price.

Thanks for all your answers.

Chevyboy91188: it is in perfect shape.

GTO & Alex71 : It’s a 6!

Zrexxer: your fellow senior members told me that this was the place to ask. If you care to drive up to NY, I’ll sell it to you for $600.00, if my buyer turns it down.!

6 may be what's on the sticker, but I assure you that motor is not building 6 hp while running. for air compressors, a good rule of thumb is 4 cfm @ 100 psi air delivery per HP. According to the sticker on yours, it delivers 10 cfm @ 100. What happened to the balance?

Not trying to rain on your parade, i'm sure that compressor will work for lots of people, and may be worth what you're asking, but it is not really a 6HP compressor.

Another rule of thumb to determine true HP is to check the amperage draw on the motor plate. A true 5 HP will be listed at around 22 amps @ 220V. A
3 HP will be around 17 amps or so.

The sticker says 240V @ 15 amps.

Humm, I'm pissed. I worked for this company. I still know where that salesman is and I'm going to have to give him a call and give him a few choice words!

Just the same the unit cranks and the performance was there when needed.

Thanks

I have a CH that says 5HP and draws 15 amps. It's what's nicknamed a "cheater" 5 because the rating is peak, not continous run. A true 5 HP motor will draw about 22 -23 amps and be considerably larger. My compressor runs good, just does not compare CFM wise to a true 5HP machine. You should be able get $400 - $450 because of the condition and the brand.

I had a Dayton Speedaire unit that I bought from Grainger that was advertised as a 5hp, but really ran as 3.5hp on a vertical 60 gallon tank. I think it was $450 new, but would 'nt keep up with my media blaster even with a small tip, so I sold it for $400, and bought a true 7.5hp Speedaire on a vertical 80 gallon for four times the money and never regretted it.

See my post above. There was a class action suit settled against these compressor manufacturers for inflating the HP ratings on the motors.
Google it or search here,IIRC there was a thread about this not too long ago.

Could you please just edit the first post so that the $600 price you mention in one of your replies is there? Thank you :)
