Air Cond. running constantly

My air cond. is running constantly and is blowing air but on a low speed I guess.

Is the motor going out ? or ? Thanks

Furnace is a Goodman, installed in 2003

when you say blowing, are you talking about the interior blower or the outdoor unit? If the motor in question is turning, chances are that it's OK and you have some other problem....like low refrigerant or some mechanical problem in the refrigeration circuit that has reduced the efficiency of the unit to the point that it can't meet the demand to satisfy the thermostat. Sounds like you need a professional to examine the unit.

Yes the interior blower is blowing slower than normal, and the outdoor unit is working and has been running so long that the line has ice built up on it.

Yes the interior blower is blowing slower than normal, and the outdoor unit is working and has been running so long that the line has ice built up on it.

It's extremely likely that this is due to low refrigerant. This causes the overall temperatures in the system to drop leading to ice buildup. The evaporator in the interior unit is probably also a solid block of ice - which is reducing the air flow and making it appear that the fan is running slower.

Sometimes this can be caused by an extremely dirty air filter that reduces air flow causing the condensate to become extra cold and start to freeze which lowers the refrigerant temperature (no air flow) leading to freezing line sets. You can check this by turning off the AC for an extended period (24 hours or so) but I would leave the fan "on" to keep air moving on your block of ice to help promote thawing. Check your air filter and try it again once thawed. If you see ice buildup and similar symptoms again, you need to have someone check for leaks, fix, and recharge the system.

That's exactly what happened when my ac was low on refrigerant. I think the ice buildup actually cooled the air coming out of the vent somewhat. Be sure to keep an eye on the melting ice, if it exists, so it doesn't cause any water damage to floor or walls.

Do your best to keep the evaporator from freezing over! Keep the filters clean and have your refrigeration level checked regularly (my entire HVAC system is inspected every 6 months -- this is one reason why.)

This is funny. I get a lot of side buisness when large companys try and pull this ****. They always try and sell the customer a new indoor coil because "it will burst when it thaws out) B.S.

Agreed.
Do they still have mechanical contacts in outside units?
Yes they do, and I have seen my fair share of them that have welded themselves closed.
