The freon lines on my air conditioner (condensor outside and fau in attic) are making noise, kind of a vibrating sound. Any idea what this could be caused by? The system is around 5 or 6 years old, scroll compressor, and was professionally installed. Have never had any problems with it.

Is it just when it shuts down(check valve noise)? or does it do it while running? chances are it has worn thru the insulation and rubbing something? you will want to isolate the lines from a hard surface, foam works well for this. Also the the ground under the outside unit and pad settles/sinks thus putting pressure on the line set. tt

its while it was running, I first noticed it when i hurd a humming noise coming from a wall, the lines were resting against a stud in the chase they take from under the house to the attic, I fixed that by using a strap to pull them back, but the lines themselves still make noise, kind of a pulsing sound. That was earlier, now theyve quieted down. There is a valve in the line at the evaporator, I forget what this is called, maybe it was sticking...

With the rise in temps it may change the tone a little, has become resonate with wallboard or stud. Are the outside coils clean? Scroll compressor hate working against a high head pressure. Haven't heard of too many (txv or axv) valves sticking/ failing, but you just never know.
