does it matter what size/length coupler I use for my air hoses, air tools etc.?

I know I want them all be same but is the short or long couplers better?

Attached is picture of the 3 sizes I have but I have only 2-3 of the 2 short ones, but about 15 of the longer ones. I have both the male and female fittings for all, same amount.

I'm going to use the longer ones since I have so many but just curious if there a big difference.

thanks in advance

It is the ID that matters most. I use the style you have pictured in the middle which seems to be the most popular around here but I use the Milton "V" series that have a slightly larger ID for more air flow.

If you won't be sharing tools with anyone and you have a bunch already and not starving your tools, I would use what you have most of.

Interoperability is another consideration in your choice. Do friends come over and work with you? Do they bring tools? Do you take air tools to other places?

Also consider air needs...all 1/4 NPT Industrial 3/8 hose fittings do not flow the same.
Using an Air hog tool, you will get MUCH better performance using Hi flow couplers than you will even quality Milton standard ones.

There is a measurable and felt increase in performance using the same 50ft 3/8 line with and without hi flow couplers.
I started with just a single line with dedicated Hi flow couplers on it and my high air use tools.
but have no converted both my reel line and individual lines and all air tools to high flow just for ease of use.

thanks for the replies. I only have one friend that brings air nail gun over sometimes and he has short coupler. but we just switch it out to my longer style. this only about once ever 6 months. so no biggie there.

as far loaning my air tools out, that is seldom and then it my oldest son. my neighbor borrowed a impact wrench once but luckily he had same set up too. I am buying my son a used portable air compressor for Christmas and I will give him a couple of same style I use.
