Read previous threads but recent two years didn’t list brand/models. I’m looking for a good value to performance air cut off tool/grinder that would run a 3 inch cutoff and a 3 inch sanding disc.

I have the harbor freight now, but it gets caught up a lot without much torque. I have a 60 gallon husky compressor that puts out 12 cfm as I remember. Or is it better to stick to electric grinders for cut off?

Why do folks prefer 3 inch sanding discs to 4.5 flap wheels? Fast for small cleanup?

Electric is the way to go unless you've got a massive compressor. They are much better with respect to torque. A usable angle grinder can be bought for peanuts now days whereas a good electric die grinder is going to set you back an couple of hundred. In my view well worth it due to the much superior performance. The other advantage of an electric die grinder is that you can use it two handed giving much better control. Just bought a Milwaukee Fuel M18 die grinder and I'm loving it.

I don't think any air die grinders have torque, mostly rpm. Electric would be better for cutoff if you have the room.

I have the HF cutoff as well, it is nearly gutless.

I also have an Aircat 6520, quiet, powerful, AND reversible...

An angle grinder with a cutoff wheel is obviously the most powerful, but I like the feel and control of the air powered, and the difference in the placement of the cutoff wheel versus the angle grinder. I have more than enough air to run it as well.
