1/4" air die grinder does not run. Air comes out but spindle does not spin. I cannot manually spin the spindle.

The tool has been used once or twice since bought 10+ years ago as a set. Mastergrip brand with impact wrench, 3/8" ratchet, air hammer, cutoff wheel. All work except the die grinder. Can it be repaired or should I buy a new one? Thank you.

They are easy to fix. I just had one seize up from water in the lines at a customers. I pulled it apart put two new bearings in and she runs as good as new.

Don't assume new from hf will work.
Somevof their air tools I bought just hissed like a snake.
Take apart and refit with lube.

If you can't turn it by hand it's probably well and truly dead. You might try taking it apart to have a look and see if something might be jammed in the motor. I have had air tools hiss that started right up with a bit of extra oil. Those turned by hand though.

While disassembling it, a casting broke off. Now I need to buy a replacement. May I suppose the HF one is good for <10 runs in next 10 years?

A low-torque piece of **** die grinder will do nothing but make me angry. They stall whenever the work gets the least bit challenging. Company I worked for used to buy CP and IR die grinders, and they were pure junk. I'm betting that HF is even worse.

If you're buying a die grinder, get a REAL one, or don't bother at all. It isn't worth the aggravation. Be aware that a die grinder (even the crappy CPs and IRs with no power) will take a LOT of air to run.

My Mac-branded die grinder has been a real beauty; far as I can tell it was made by SP Air 'cause it looks just like the one in the link below. I used it HARD, every day for years, and occasionally after that. Must be close to twenty years old now. I've never put vanes in it, but it's gotten bearings a couple of times.
