I just learned that United Refrigeration is phasing out some heat pump units.
I happened to reserve the last two 1.5 ton R410A condensing units at the store at $600 a piece. Any guys here have any experience with these hp unit? The construction seem durable as the case is all sheet metal. I plan to keep them as spare for my rentals as most of them are now going 20 years old.
Thanks.

Heck, I didn't know that the Air Ease brand still existed! My dad installed one of their furnaces back in 1972 or so, and as of 2003 it was still working.

Thanks bonneyman.
The construction seems durable with sheet metal casing instead of wire grill.
They are heat pumps with single speed scroll compressor, TXV, and low and high pressure switches.
I went ahead and bought them.

Its pretty much a rebranded Lennox Merit series unit, nothing bad to say about them.

All the manufacturers are in a feverish race to the bottom as far as quality is concerned but Lennox and Trane seem to be better than most.

Heck, if I could find a pre-2010 condensing unit I'd rebuild it. So long as the condenser coil itself is still OK, I'd rip everything else out of it (leaving just the cabinet - which I would powder coat in white or some light color) and replace it with the parts of my choosing.

On rentals, that's pretty much what I do on units that are over 25 years old. I just buy a new R22 compressor with the POE oil and install it on a 13 SEER heat pump. Then I use R407C now as the refrigerant on change outs which is way cheaper than R22.
