Air filter for old Campbell Hausfeld compressor

I have adopted an older Campbell Hausfeld compressor model vt5587. It appears to be missing the air filters. The problem is that my compressor has a v-twin type head and every manual I can find has a single head. Anyone able to point me towards a source for the filters. I’d prefer to adapt it to a more modern filter because I’m guessing it originally had either a foam or felt piece in the side of the head.

if you have any metal fabricating skill, make a plate with a threaded hole & install a canister filter

Funny I just posted this yesterday. That was my solution.

Here is a made in USA Solberg filter, 1.25" inlet. Listed for $55.

  • Solberg air compressor air filter / silencer housing with element.
  • The filter element size is 4-3/8" outside diameter 4-3/4" Tall and 3" inside diameter.
  • The housing is 7-1/4" tall and 6" diameter with a 1-1/4" Male NPT pipe thread.
  • This is a great option for reducing the noise of your compressor and is a great replacement option.
  • This is a high quality, metal housing with a filter that are both made in the U.S.A.
i believe Solberg is considered to be a good design, with lower db ratings. Here is their website: https://www.solbergmfg.com/en/filters-traps-silencers/inlet-filtration-silencing

If you can adapt it to fit a Solberg, that would certainly be my choice. They are very good and really do make a noticeable difference to intake noise, at least on slow-running compressors where intake noise is audible over everything else.

Thanks for the replies. I am a bit of a metal fabrication hack so I could probably whip up something that would work. I hadn't actually thought of converting it over, this is my first big compressor so I've never had to worry about it before.

As an aside.....I noticed that most of the Solberg filters are rated by SCFM....any idea what ballpark I should be looking at for SCFM for this compressor? There is nothing on the info plate about it's output.

Somewhere "around" 5 (S)CFM/HP should be close enough.

There's enough BS and misinformation about compressor throughput that you can't use that number to size the compressor to a task, but a displacement of 5 CFM per HP has been pretty much the norm for decades and displacement gives the highest numerical value, which is what the ad-men go for.

Delivered SCFM will always be lower than displacement, so you won't be undersizing the filter if you use 5 SCFM/HP.
