I have an air dryer for my compressor. Would you put the filter before the dryer or after? It seems like it would be best to go before the dryer, however there will be a lot of water filtered, it will have to be drained. Where as after the dryer there shouldn't be any water

Filter then dryer. At least that's how Ingersoll Rand had me install it when I put in a system consisting of 200 HP / 1,000 CFM variable speed compressor, filter, twin-bed desiccant dryer, and 1,500 gallon storage tank (dry receiver). And yes the filter has a condensate drain as well. Some moisture falls out at the filter but most goes on to the dryer.

At first I had planned to do it in the other order for the same reason you have. But it makes more sense this way to filter the **** out before the dryer.

Yeah you always want the filter before the regulator. My Milton says right on the regulator that there is no warranty without a filter before it.

some of these setups use dual filters, one for water/dirt, and one for oil. How important is it to have oil filtration before the dryer? I would guess the oil filter is mainly for paint shops and would be better at the end?
