Just finished maintenance on my 37 year old Briggs & Stratton motor. Cleaned the airfilter out, now I was wondering, what is the best way to oil it after letting it dry?

Do I need to get the spray can with special air filter oil, or is this one of those marketing deals where they charge you 5 times the price for some magical specialty oil type deal.

Can I do it the old fashioned way, soaking it in motor oil? I've heard guys adding alcohol as well...

Thanks!

Don't soak it in motor oil. Just run a couple ounces of fresh motor oil on it, and then squeeze it like a sponge to distribute the oil. I use a single hand with a nitrile glove. Then wrap it in a paper towel and squeeze to absorb extra oil. The best tip I know is to check the filter often and clean it when it is dirty. If you are in a dusty area, this will be more frequently.

Generally whatever is in the crankcase will work fine on the air filter. Follow the above posters instructions.

Although lately I've been spraying them down with K&N oil, cleaner and easier.

what I do is clean them with carb cleaner. the foam expands 10x it's normal size for a few minutes, then goes back to normal. dump a capful of motor oil on it and wring it out...works for me...

I have an old Goldenrod can that my dad had that I have filled with oil. I give it a couple of hits with the trigger and drizzle in the oil. Done.
