Air Filter…worth it?

Hey all,

I have a 22x22 2 car garage with 12’ ceilings. It is mostly finished and has an electric heater which is only turned on when working out there.

I am looking at air filtration for the garage. I notice lots of cobwebs/ dust mites/ dirt around the garage. Will an air filter (ceiling hung) make a considerable difference for me? We often leave the 2car single door open for hours on end if it’s nice out. Or am i wasting my money?

My garage is used mostly for light motorcycle/ car work and hanging around. Not much wood working.

If yes, is this something that is left on 24/7? Or only a couple hours/ day etc? Thinking electrical bill…

No practical experience, but I think that if your not making dust, then a dust collector is a waste of money.

Spray for mites and spiders.

Get a box fan and tape a filter of your choice to the front and run it... you'll be amazed how dirty the filter will get.

Mine is about 20x20 fwiw.

Dust it semi-regularly. I use one of these.

plus one on the box fan idea...cheap and easy as an experiment.

Put the filter on the backside of the fan. That setup will keep your fan clean too.

If you say leaving the doors open for hours upon end, I would say you are wasting your money.

Just like your Pops would ask if you left the door open, "are we heating the outside ?"

My Air Filter is a Box Fan and some 20X20 Furnace Filters held together with Duct Tape.

I swear I can get my garage squeaky-clean, and inside of two weeks the cobwebs are back and it's like the Crypt Keeper's living room.

I don't know of a solution... I keep the place swept with an air blower as best I can.

set off a bug bomb in the garage, that should take care of the critters.
