air for blasting: filter first or regulator first?

I have a Kelco blasting cabinet which I've been putting back into working order. It works well now until the compressor air warms up, then the water creates problems. I have a nice matched set of filter and regulator (separate, discrete units). I will mount them piped together closely but the question is should it be filter then regulator or regulator or filter or doesn't matter?

Filter then regulator, to keep the crud out of the regulator. Both plumbed in as far away from the compressor as possible.

Filter, then regulator. I had a pair actually mounted to my blaster, sometimes dial down the pressure for more delicate stuff.

Huh? must be a regional thing
I always heard it's filter THEN regulator, to keep the crud out of the regulator. Both plumbed in as far away from the compressor as possible.
