I have a vintage CP air gun I bought used. I know it works cause I asked a the seller fired up his compressor and ran the gun. So how do I set and or adjust the gun for initial use ? I will use it to change tires mostlybas Imam to old to turn a lug wrench. I do not want to over tighten . Should I just use the gun to remove and then torque them or how does it work .?

No real setup required. But rule number one of air tools is this: "Always oil before each use". How much oil you might ask? 2 or 3 drops of air tool oil or ATF should be fine; It is almost impossible to over oil a air tool. Post a picture of the wrench so we can help with more specifics. Impact wrenches are fine for removal of lug nuts. Just remember to torque them by hand for re-installation. You can lightly use the impact wrench to run the lug nuts on though.

Attached is a link to a generic Central Pneumatic impact wrench manual for you to read through. I hope this helps.

If the gun has the port on the side that says oil above it, pull that plug and see if there is any oil in it. If not, fill it. it takes about an ounce.

Slackmaster, I have an old CP-734. I use Marvel Mystery oil (just a couple drops) in the air inlet every couple times I use it. It has been reliable since the late 1970's with just regular lubrication. Set-up? I turn the regulator wide open and leave it there. It works just fine for all my needs. Pics of yours, if you can.

Ingersoll Rand recommends 15 drops of oil before and after use in their tools. As folks said, you can't over oil.

So open the adjuster ? To the right?

turning to the left will open air inlet to max power. Like the other guys have said a few drops of oil is great for sure. I like to do the same if I can at the end of the day put a few drops in . A short run of the tool .
