Air Hammer - Air leak

I bought an air hammer from Harbor Freight which already had the male coupler installed. When I connect the hammer to the airline, it leaks air from the male coupler at the threads.

Since this is my first air tool, and the coupler was already installed, can I remove the coupler and install a new coupler with pipe tape?

Yes, just remove it and use pipe tape on the threads. If it is a little "loose", use the yellow gas line type of tape.
