Air Hammer and Small Compressor

I have the black 8 gallon compressor from HF. I've found conflicting information on whether it will be able to run an air hammer. I don't need it for anything heavy, mostly knocking loose stuck brake rotors or possibly the occasional ball joint.

According to my rough calculation, I won't get more than about 10 seconds out of it. Is that enough to do anything useful? Has anyone successfully used one with a tank that small? I don't mind have to wait for it to refill, but I don't know whether it's even enough for that 5 seconds or so to hit hard enough to actually do any work.

I'm considering the Chicago Pneumatic 7150 or the IR 114. My understanding is the 7150 will hit harder and slower, the 114 softer and faster. It looks like the 7150 should use a little less air?

10 seconds may be enough to knock loose something that isn't too badly seized. Go check out the CFM ratings on your two air hammer candidates. But even with my HF 21 gal compressor, I wish it didn't have to refill the tank so often.

An 8 gallon compressor with an air hammer is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. A manual mini sledge would be more effective
If you must go with the cheaper gun so you when you are disappointed you won't have spent as much. Your other options is upgrading to a larger compressor.

I have a vintage 8 gallon Craftsman from 1989. I have used an air hammer just for the same purpose as yours. It has worked fine for me. Yes....it cycles a bit...but it has gotten the job done.
