Air hammer question

I just got a matco air hammer with the quick change adaptor. Is it normal for air to escape through the front of the gun when the bit is hanging down and away from the gun (not sure if I'm explaining it right)? Basically the gun doesn't work when the bit is hanging down and away from the gun, but it works when I tilt the bit back, touching the gun. Is this normal? The gun also works fine when I place the bit against an object. Thanks for your help

Yes. If you have it just facing down in the air, the bit isn't touching the piston, so you just get a lot of noise.

No it is not normal .. My air hammer with the Matco MTCR2 quick change adapter does not have that problem. You probably have a defective quick change adapter ...
