General rule of thumb, the longer the stroke the harder the hit. So I guess the ultimate question is, are you getting the smaller hammer to do something specific, or fit into tighter spaces? (personally, I would opt for longer stroke)
The long barrels do hit harder in general, the short barrel with hit softer (sort of) but also hit faster. Both have their uses, but long barrels is my go to 99% of the time.
