Harbor Freight Air Hammer

So, for the holidays "Happy New Year" I had a need for a better air hammer. After reading about all the famous brands and what they are capable of doing, I had intended of purchasing one of Astros models. However, my requirements are not as stringent or demanding as his. Also my financial situation at this time is boarding near the poverty arena.. So I hobble into my local "Harbor Freight" and walked out with there Chief air hammer model, CH401LB long barrel. I will tell you this. If you do not have a good grip when you squeeze the trigger, you will wish that you did. Anyway for my intended purposes this should do the trick. One note, this is heavy and makes plenty of noise. Hopefully it will serve me well in the near future.

Should be just fine. It’s pretty hard to screw up an air hammer.

To be honest, harbor freights new line of chief products have impressed me. Not as much bang for you buck as some of their other stuff, but a heck of a lot more bang. Pretty solid stuff. They are really stepping up their game and ruffling some industry leaders feathers in a big way as of late.

I bought the Chief this past summer. Used it to drive a couple of 5/8" electrical grounding rods 8 feet into the ground. It worked well for that. Sure beat driving them in by hand.

The main thing with air hammers is to give them a squirt of air tool oil fairly often.

FYI - there are plenty of people here that won't judge you by the tool you buy. Think of it as the silent majority.

PT, Then I guess that I am one of the "Silent Majority" First of all my resources are limited. I use and purchase what tools that I am able to afford and require. Example, I purchased a Dewalt 18 volt 3/8 impact wrench years ago. On my last project I was installing shocks on my F150. On the end of the Dewalt, was a Craftsman 6 inch extension, and top this combination off with a snap on socket. Yes it could be wonderful if I could manage the latest wrenches from our friends at "Astro" but unfortunately we do not need another threatening letter from our utility company. I have a 1/2 drive Craftsman air impact that is still going strong. However with my physical limitations it is a tad heavy.
Silent majority, yes I guess that this allows me to qualify as a member. I generally get the mission completed with my selection of hybrid of tools. Thanks for the kind reply Ken
