Went over to a rental property I own that I'm trying to get ready to rent out and go to turn the ac down and find the air handler like partially on. Walked down stairs and the outside unit was running. I wonder if the blower motor went bad? Or maybe the capacitor? I just had them replace the blower motor a couple years ago. It's one of those stupid variable speed motors that's like $500

I hope it hasn't spent the last week trying to turn on while I wasn't there.

Our upstairs unit was doing that earlier this summer. Called the service guy. he replaced the run capacitor. All is well now.

The motor doesn't even change speed either. I think maybe the only time it may change speeds is switching between ac and heat.

If its an ECM and it just turns slowly its bad. You can technically fix them if you want to bust out the soldering iron and replace components. But youre better off just replacing it.

Do u own a volt ohm meter? Cooling blower normally runs on high black and white wires. Heating white common, red or blue. Take a pic of the wiring diagram blower door

There is a service procedure that has to be followed for a ecm motor. It might not be the motor could be the board that sends a signal to the motor. Do u own a volt ohm meter? Google furnace brand and model for a service manual. Motor brand and model number. Electronic parts in motor can be replaced. A ecm motor before the covid was close to 1k. Are is the motor a 3-or 4 speed motor?
Well it did work fine for a couple years. Could very well be the board. We will see tomorrow whats up. It was like 800 bucks about a year after covid the last time I replaced the blower motor.

And yes I have multi meter but checking to see of a DC 12v battery has a charge is about all I use it for.

I guess the warranty is one year and it had been 2 years. This must be an evry other year thing.... although they did order a new harness for it this time he saw some corrosion in the connection.
