Air hose connector question

Not sure what they're called but I'm referring to the female ends of the hose that connect to tools.

I've seen some in YouTube vids that are super easy to connect, virtually plug and play. All the people did was just insert their tool. What are these called and where can I get my hands on them?

Generically, it is called a "quick connect". Cheap at HF, which is what I use.

They're just referred to as safety quick couplers. Prevost it my preferred brand of choice. Link below to Fisheries Supply, best price I've found on them. Link is for industrial type fitting, make sure you order the correct coupler for the male fittings you already have.

I'm currently using the ones from HF. The ones I'm looking for allow me to just push the male end of the tool into the connector without having to pull the ring back till I'm ready to separate the two.

I apologize for the lack of decent terminology here. I'm sure if I knew the proper terms it'd be a lot easier on you guys.

Yea quick connects. I have used multiple brands from Speedaire, Prevost, Milton, etc. The Harbor Freight stuff is pure junk in my experiences. I had a 3' whip leak right out the package and a quick connect fall apart after maybe a dozen uses. I personally don't buy things with motors, moving parts or pneumatic connections from HF.

I believe they're called "push-to-connect" couplers. When you insert the plug end of the hose it snaps closed and locks on. Then when you are finished you slide the collar back and it releases.

The Prevost style with the button you just push the tool in, push button to release, really nice to work with. I'm planning to add a few more.

The ones at HF female leaks the seal goes out pretty fast, go to a auto paint supply and ask for Milton couplers. Bring the male end that you use and match it up [emoji6]

I have the Milton's V style as well. Not the cheapest but they last a long, long time.

+1 That's what the OP is asking for.

I've found that the "universal" quick connectors are usually a push-on style. These work by having the collar stay in the rear position with the locking balls free when the male fitting is out.

Other push-on styles use a wedge style lock instead of balls.

I got Husky at Home Depot for my HF Earthquake. They have been fine. The HF hose started leaking after a few years. I just got the Craftman black rubber 50 to replace it.

Just get 1 Prevost push button style for the most used hose that matches your other disconnect style. That's what I did, 90% of the time you're just swapping tools at the end of a hose. It's worth it, you won't believe the difference in ease of use.

Just make sure you get the correct style and diameter that you want to use. There are different types, Industrial, Automotive and some others.. Industrial is probably the most popular. There is also a universal style that I never had good luck with using. They always leaked. I agree the HF are poorly made. Most any brand name will serve you well. Speed Aire, Milton, Parker, Campbell H, Husky etc.
I use industrial style. I keep an adapter I made up that goes from Industrial to automotive for when I borrow an air tool that has an automotive fitting on it.

I switched a couple hoses to Coilhose 5-1 couplers. Same idea as a safety coupler (hooking and pressurizing are separate). COO is China however they seem very well made and are holding up perfectly so far. My experience with the prevost ones wasn't positive and I ended up switching back to miltons before switching to try Coilhose. The Prevost broke pretty quickly (they made it about 8 months in a shop environment). The other negative is they still require a good amount of force to pressurize the tool. First push links the tool, second push (more effort) pressurizes it. With the coilhose 5-1 they have 2 collars, one to hook the tool up and one to open or close air flow so they're nearly effortless to use.

The 5-1 also has linked with no leaks to every common connector you'd find in a shop.

I know I sound like a bit like some sort of paid advert for them but they really are nice.
