Air hose location

I've been thinking of getting one of those 3/8" x 50' air hose reels from HF. I was thinking of mounting it in the center of my shop (30' x 40') ceiling (actually the center truss) Any reason not to do this?? Would there possibly be a better location?

I mounted mine on a partition, about 8' right of the main door and about 2' out from the front wall. I can drag the hose outside to most things including all the wheels on a 24' race trailer. I can also pull it out to get to items/tires inside without dragging the hose across any vehicle.

I mounted mine across the ceiling joists using a 2x8 board and carriage bolts with nylock nuts. Two L brackets secure the board to the joists.

Why would it be a bad idea to center it?

Put it where you think it's the most convenient to your uses for it.

I have that exact 50' reel on the side wall about 4' from the roll up door and a 25' reel to the left of center at the back wall of the garage. I also have a coil hose about 6' up on a tool retract cable reel above my bench with an air nozzle on it. Covers anything I need to get air to...

The neat thing about the reels. They can be mounted where ever you need them, where ever they will fit.

If you mount as described, will it end up hanging above the center of a rig or between two of the bays? Me I have a reel mounted just next to the OH door so it provides air outside or the rear of the bay. Another is at the opposite corner of the bay to handle the front of the rig and the work bench. That works for me because 90% of the work is done in that one bay, yet I can get a hose to most anywhere in the shop from one of hose two locations.

I would not want a hose positioned where it had to be drug OVER a rig to get it where it needs to be. So I have them at the ends of the work bay.

I have a 25' just back from center of my shop (24x36), and will add another (or 50'er) between the garage doors. the 25'er reaches everything at back of shop, and another would finish indoors & some outdoors too, which is why I may go 50' for that one.

I did exactly that in my 30X40. It works great. Covers the whole shop and gets far enough outside for me to paint.

Great set up. Is that just an extra storage tank on the wall? Compressor is located elsewhere? (Sorry for the hijack)

Mine is at the back of the garage (away from the door) since most of my work is there. It's off-center so I don't have to drag it across the vehicle if it's in the garage. I am planning on branching the main line so that I can have a small coil hose and maybe put another reel at the front of the garage for tire fill ups.

Mine is at the front of the garage. It's working out perfect right there.



I made a little 'helper' on the wall near it to hold the most common attachments.



Not sure if you can see it in this pic, but right above the saw and near the lights is a quick connect. I 'did' have one of those plastic curly hoses on it....but it started to leak. Came in real handy for blowing saw dust away.

I have mine mounted on front wall, so I can reach outside as well as inside the shop. It is on one end, so it does not reach all the way to other side, but I can add an extension hose if necessary.

I have two bays in my garage and I have wall mounted bay to service my 4 post lift bay, and a ceiling mounted reel to service my 2 post lift bay.

Maybe put it on a swivel in the center so it can,easily go to any corner?

I'd cheat it off center towards the overhead door(s). Depending on your ceiling height, you'll easily reach the corners of the shop with it centered but it may not reach far enough outside. I have mine ceiling mounted centered between the two single overhead doors about 3' from the front wall. That way I can reach the corners of any vehicle in the garage or anything parked in front of the doors.
