+1 on the HF unit. I own 3) 50', and 1) 25' HF reels. 2 of them are 7'ish years old, and one of those has spent it's life out in the weather. I have no complaints, besides the hoses are kinda stiff. 3 of mine have Parker push-lok hoses, and the one in my barn still has the OEM hose on it. I don't like how stiff it is, and I plan on replacing it, but the reels hold up very well.

I have been looking at a 30' Flexzilla Hose/Reel at Menard's for $59. No one else seems to be anywhere near that price. The Flexzilla hoses get great reviews but I am not sure about the reels. They offer a 50' as well but don't know if menards carries it or not. On Amazon the 50' runs somewhere around $100 I believe.

I bought one a few months back for one side of the garage that I use for the wood working stuff. It doesn't get alot of use but so far, I like it.

Thanks for the feedback Nutts. I will probably pull the trigger in a couple of weeks. Leaving on vacation day after tomorrow, Disneyland and Sunny Southern California. Once we get back it will likely be time. currently I am using the plastic hose that came with the Craftsman compressor. What a piece of junk.

The reels at Northern Tool look IDENTICAL to the HF reels. I wanted to believe otherwise, but I inspected both in the same day, and took several pictures for reference when I went to the second store. I bought the HF reel and will replace the hose when it wears out with a Flexilla or Goodyear.

I have both the Northern Tool and Harbor Freight air hose reels. The Northern Tool reel seems to have a better spring and ratchet system. The NT reel is a lot smoother and quieter turning than the HF reel. The HF reel just sounds clunky compared to the NT reel.

I gave my dad one from Northern Tool about 6 years ago and it works great!
The ratcheting system is getting a little worn after a lot of use.

I have 4 Reelcrafts. My dad got the first one for me about 35 years ago and it's still going strong. The others, I recently bought from Zoro Tools on line, which I found had the best price and have great service.

I bought one to use in the garage (standard 2 car garage) and the reel has held up well. The hose has developed some cracks in it so I will probably replace it in the near future.

I didn't like the way the hose connected to the reel so I put a 90 degree elbow on it. That kept the hose from being bent 90 degrees all the time.

Other than that the reel works just fine. Much faster to put it up at night.

I have a 50' hose reel made by Ranger Products that I've had for about 7 years now. The retracting mechanism still works like the day I installed it and I use it a lot - at least weekly. I'm also still on he same hose that it came with.

2 year old 50 FT Harbor Freight here.

The actual reel works fine, but my hose just crapped out after 2 years of medium/light homeowner use. Split right where the hose is seamed to the coupling.

I suppose I could salvage/spare the hose by chopping the coupling clean off and hose clamping another on there.

Hose on my HF split after less than six months of use. Very, very light use at that.

Luckily I had a 50' Goodyear hose (that had also been purchased at HF many years ago) that wasn't being used to replace it. The reel itself is great.

That's the quickest and easiest way to do it. We repair air hoses for people every day. If your hose failed at the ferrule it's most likely being pulled and kinked which causes the fitting and ferrule to cut into the hose. I would recommend a bend restrictor on the end. You can get a factory style or use some clear PVC tubing, it will help take the stress off the hose.
