Hi,
There has been alot of threads dedicated to hoses and reels. Key those names you mentioned into the thread search, and you will get all the info you will need.

There must be a secret to using the search in this forum that I haven't learned. There seems to be no boolean options. Search for Hose Reel returns everything hose and everything reel. Search for any one of those terms above and I get a gazillion hits, some might seem related. Others are things like "Those are Goodyear tires on my dune buggy".

For me at least, I'd prefer to entertain a new thread on any of these subjects. If not for the idea of the kludgy search engine, then for the idea that new thoughts may have surfaced. If I, for example, buy a new hose reel, I don't immediately search for an old thread and post my opinion. But if some new post popped up and asked "Are Binford Reels ok?" I might certainly jump in and say "Yes, I just bought one. Blows up my doll fast" or whatever.

Just sayin...Searchin' here isn't very effective, for me at least.

I'm sure many will bash this, but I have had great luck with the harbor freight reels. I have both the short and long one (lengths escape me right now sorry but they only have 2 models) I also have an enclosed style Husky unit. They have all held up great over the years, no leaks, never swapped the hoses out yet.

I also have a Harbor freight reel and have had it for years, and recommend it. Especially for the money. I'd be the first one to rip it off the ceiling and smash it if didn't work so well.

Grab yourself a Snap On Air Hose and Reel. Lifetime warranty on Air Hose if it rips, kink, or whatever. Lifetime warranty on the defect workmanship on the Reel.

Call it a day.

I have 3 of them. Never went back to any other type of Air Hose.

I got one of these for personal use from northern tool.

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_47578_47578

I think it was on sale even lower in the store, plus I had a $20 off $100 coupon which worked out good since I bought a few other things too.

It has pretty good reviews online and seems decent enough IMO. I wouldn't stick it in a auto shop, but for home use I think it will last for quite a while. It has a 1 year warranty.

I almost bought a hand-crank model, but for just a little more it's nice to get the auto-retractable. :)

Good luck with a lifetime warranty on that Costco Snap On. No SO dealer will warranty that ****, and once Costco's out of them, you're SOL.

I prefer stuff that doesn't break to stuff that just has a great warranty, and Coxreel and Reelcraft both set the standard for high quality hose reels. You'd be hard pressed to go wrong with either one.

When we decided to sell hose reels we evaluated several brands and decided on Reelcraft hose reels. Why? They are made in the USA, are extremely good quality, and available in many different configurations and price ranges. Parts and service are readily available. The company has been outstanding to work with.

We often get calls from people looking for parts for their Made in China reels. Our standard response is to tell them to "Call China for your parts".

Choose a good American Made reel and you will be happy for years to come, plus you have helped a fellow American stay employed.

I got a reel from Lowes. It works well. They had two models i bought the more expensive one. The hose quickly died (three years). I now have a good year hose (made in the USA). The reel works great.

I got a manual reel from Tractor Supply when they were on sale for $20. I also got a Goodyear rubber hose (USA) from Harbor Freight for $15.

I couldn't be happier!

I have a Rapid Reel (manual type) and it has worked flawlessly. I spooled 100 ft. of polyurethane hose and couldn't be happier with it. At work we have auto retracting and they have proved to be problematic (cheap reels).

I found that a lot of people on this forum have reelcraft, and a few of those people have problems with them (not many, but a few).

I also found that some people on this forum have coxreels, and i can't remember reading about any problems with them.

My local lowe's has a huge reelcraft water hose reel in the garden department, and it's broken.

All this information lead me to buy a coxreel. I waited for over a month, but finally found a brand new 3/8 x 50' on ebay for less than $180 shipped. It is also upgradeable to their slow return spring if i ever find that to be a problem. (You can also get used ones all day long for $150 from either brand).

These are the only 2 brands i will ever consider after bad experiences with chinese and plastic units.

yo sayin "SNAP ON" isn't "Snap On"? it sure shows on the box and Snap On isn't chasing them off.

Alltrade licenses the name, logo and colors from Snap-On. Everything you find in a retail store (not a pawn shop) that says Snap-On is Alltrade.

I don't recall what brand my auto hose reel is but it's a double and white and very heavy, about 18+ yrs. old. Still works great, maybe i'll peak to see the brand so I can try to remember.

I installed the goodyear reel in my garage last spring. It has been fine so far but has only been used on a few projects. I shut off a valve so it is not under pressure when not in use. If it ever fails I would be up to try a reelcraft next. It did come with extra o-rings incase it does start leaking.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I have 5 Reelcraft in my garage and they have been flawless for years, at work we've standardized on Cox Reels EZ series with the slow retract and they two have been great. None of these are cheap but I believe that you get what you pay for.
