air hose repair

Hi y'all. I just got back from 2 months in Alaska and my air hose on my ceiling reel is leaking right at the 3/8" end. I'd like to repair this using some sort of banding clamp in order to avoid the worm drive clamp hanging on the end of the hose. It's just an aesthetic thing. Anybody know where I can get a repair kit that doesn't come with wormdrive clamps?

not that would not cost more than a new hose
unless you know somebody that has tooling/fittings for PEX piping

Find a local maker of hydraulic hoses, and have them crimp an end.

Personally, I'm fine with the worm clamps at the back end of the hose, but would never have one on the tool end. Too much chance of getting hurt on the tail.
You can always turn the hose around though.

THIS.

Some Napa stores still do custom hoses, it should cost you less than ten bucks and ten minutes. Hell, less than five bucks if you're lucky. I get my custom hoses done at a heavy equipment rental store.

Gates sell some kind of super "rubber band" hose clamp, but I haven't actually seen one yet. Many companies make good hose clamps that don't cut into the hose, Ideal, Wurth, I forget the other one I use (factory on Porsches and I reuse them).

The reusable hose ends are made for a thin hose aren't they, like PVC or whatever? Do they work on a normal rubber hose?

The double ear clamps that were pictured above are good (try Oetiker -- also rebranded by Wurth). Also -- at McMaster they've got some clampless couplers -- in brass or stainless made by Dixon I think. If you search through my past threads, you'll find a thread or two I did with close-up photos of my set employing these connectors.

We always used "punch lok" banding or something like that. Kind of difficult to use and get everything centered right. Not saying that is the "best" way, just the way we handled bulk 3/8 air hose from about 1000ft spools.

Where do you find those milton ends locally?

Another Canadian PC.

Thx,
PC
Sorry for not getting back sooner. I used to get them at Princess Auto but I haven't seen them there for awhile. I get a very similar product from Cummins Hydraulics in Newmarket (see link below). If there isn't one by you there are probably other industrial suppliers that can help you out.

Go to a local weld supply house they should be able to put a new end on it for you.The 1 I worked at for years had a recrimper and new sleeves in stock they also had a re crimping device in stock that we sold made by western enterprises. I use to repair oxy/acet. hoses daily for customers.
