I am the proud owner of my second Troy Bilt four stroke trimmer but am having trouble getting it to run like it should. (it's two years old) It would idle but no more. Rather than mess with the carburetor, I spent $22.00 for a new OEM carb. I put on new Troy Bilt hoses. If I mess with the choke I can get it to sort of run full speed. It runs best at half choke. There are bubbles in the primmer bulb when it's running. It has a new fuel filter. Since it has new hoses I'm thinking I have an air leak but where? Thanks...........jaymik

I have a Troy Built four stroke trimmer as well. Mine has to be about quarter choke to run good. Mine don't need to run good because of the simple fact that it is so effing heavy that I don't even use it. The thing kills my back after about 15 mins of running it. The bottom line with these trimmers now days is they are junk. Cheap Chinese junk. I had one That I bought brand new that was doing what you describe. Come to find out the carburetor mounting bolts were missing washers. The bolts were bottoming out before tightening the carburetor down. I know the primer bulbs can cause a lot of issues on these things as well. Sorry for my little rant, I just get tired of spending my hard earned money on junk quality now days.

Bubbles in the primer bulb are fine. It will never fill with gas completely. If possible turn the low speed mixture screw out an 1/8 of a turn.

what a pile of junk, and I think I paid $100 more because it was a honda

I just re-read the post and I thought it said four stroke "tiller".........that's the pile of junk I have.......sorry, it's a ***** getting old..............lol
I have a Red Max trimmer. The company was owned by Komatzu, the company that makes the heavy road equipment but they sold it to AYP Husqvarna. I don't know if they are still good but mine runs like a champ. Had it for years. No issues at all. I see landscapers using them. They are not cheap.
