I got my dynabrade composite swivel. I do not notice any significant reduction in preformance. They are rated up to 33 cfm, it says on package.

Has anybody tried the Prevost HVLP paint air couplers with impact wrenches or ratchets?

I use Milton type V HVLP fittings on all my air tools including ratchets & impact. It does make quite a bit of difference compared to the type M that I had been using. Tools sound different & had more torque than before. Never had any issues with fittings coming off during use. Sometime just for giggles might change a ratchet back to the regular fitting & torque a lugnut on till it stalls then use a torque wrench to see what it takes to break it loose then change back to HVLP fittings & repeat to see what the difference actually is.

Milton industrial steel couplers, last a long time. For the big stuff Chichago fittings are the way to go.

I used Prevost with Blue-Point swivel attached bottom. Used air hammer, air impacts, air ratchets with no problems. And Milton at the end of the hose for shop air line.

I got few of these from a buddy called "Automatic NPT" or something like that. it has a internal lock, when separate the couplers, pull the sleeve just like the regular ones and the sleeve will stay unlocked. when connect the couplers, just push the male coupler and the sleeve will lock itself and making a "click" sound.

In my garage, I use the universal couplers from Home Depot. They'll hold pretty much anything and don't need two hands to lock or release, just push and go. They do leak a little though if you don't engage the lock properly.

Has there ever been a thread that has a comprehensive list of air coupler types and the pros and cons of each? I tried to look but didn't have a lot of luck. All I've ever heard of is "automotive" and "industrial" type connectors (I sure there's a proper type name for each but I don't know what that is). They seem so close but don't inter-operate, surely there must be reasons behind each design.

Yes.

I use the Prevost USA's High-Flow (also called Euro-profile or HVLP) couplers. Absolutely fantastic. Easy to connect, rock solid, don't leak even in a dirty, rusty Ohio shop, plastic coating on the outside of the metal body so you can't accidentally bang up paint, push-button release, and anti-hose-whip feature. They flow more than a 1/4" I/M and even more than a Milton V. They flow damned near as much as most 3/8"-sized fittings (which most people have never even seen). Their 1/4" and 3/8" threaded fittings also are compatible so I can mix and match different hose sizes without having to use adapters to make everything work.

My IR 2135QTiMAX works better, with less pressure set at the regulator with the Prevost Euros that it did with standard 1/4" I/M fittings and with the Milton V fittings.

I'm very, very happy with the setup.

I just swapped out all my couplers to Milton T type and I wish I'd done it years ago. I had been living with that constant little hiss that drives you nuts.

Can someone tell me which if any Prevost safety couple would be compatible with Miton T style couplers>

Can anyone tell me where I can buy some Miltons locally? Or if anyone can provide some insight on maybe the Lowes (Kobalt?) brand universal setup that comes with couplings and a hose end? I can get it pretty cheap since I work there

I think you can get them at Northern Tool. I ordered mine from Tooltopia. I had the Lowes couplers and they leaked like mad.

I switched to the Milton Type V, and there is a noticeable difference. Here is a link to a pic and description


To be more precisely accurate...the Type V male will not fit a standard Type M female coupler, because the Type V is bigger. But the Type V female coupler will accept a 1/4 Type M male but not the 3/8 Type M male.

I think there is a little confusion happening. The Type M have 1/4 and 3/8 bore size, and threads, not interchangeable bore size. The Type V have one bore size and 1/4 and 3/8 NPT threads hence the NPT.

The Type M, 1/4 and 3/8 bore will not interchange. If the 3/8 Type M was available in a 1/4 NPT threads...that would be good. But as far as I can tell there isn't such a thing. The 3/8 is only available in a 3/8 NPT Threads.

Conversely, the Type M 1/4 is available in a 3/8 NPT. But you still only get the flow of the 1/4.
Everyone I know and the shops I have been in all use Type M 1/4. Which the Type V coupler accepts fine.
