Air Line Design

Hey all,

Moved my air compressor into my shed behind my house and ran 3/4” ID Iron Pipe from the tank up into the garage. I plan to have a 50’ air hose but 3/8” air hose seems like it will choke the volume of air off with the 1/4” npt ends. Should I care about this or go bigger on the hose?

I have the standard air tools a mechanic would have include 1/2” impacts.

There's one thing that seems like a conundrum but the "throttle/choke/bottleneck" is often insignificant when it comes to the total length of the pipe, in terms of friction.

IOW, that you have a 1/4npt fitting on the 3/8 + 3/4" system is not equivalent to having a full 1/4" system, its far better.

My thought is that on a 1/2" sq drive impact you are good with your setup. It takes a lot of extra volume to turn a 3/4" sq drive impact where you probably need to upgrade to a 1/2" hose.

The 3/8 hose with those ends are standard for 1/2 impacts.

I can get the same one but in 3/8s for a little cheaper.

I plan to use the high flow Milton fittings. All pipes and dryer/regulator setup will be 3/4” ID.
