Air nailer plastic problems

Granted I've had my tools sit in my non-airconditioned garage for the last 15 years, but I wondered if others had problems with the plastic just totally dis-integrating inside their nailer or stapler. The particular part I'm talking about is what's called a piston stop inside my Porter Cable nailer. It has sat in my garage most of the time and only used very seldom, probably less than 300 nails in its life. The other day I went to use it and after 1 nail it quit. When I opened it up, the plastic piston stop had dis-integrated into a thousand pieces. I had the same thing happen to a Sears stapler a couple years ago. In the manuals, it talks about replacing o-rings which I have never had a problem with, but never mentions the plastic piston stop will self destruct after so many years under very light use. Anyone else run into this with air nailers?

The replacement parts are available though.

I never had such problems as you described with air nailers , but I never owned a Porter Cable air nailer - mine are Senco, Hitachi, and Spotnails. I do own a Porter Cable tiger saw and used it very little. I store in the metal box it came with and the strain relief on the power cord became brittle and later cracked and crumbled into small pieces. The rubber like material was so cheap. My other power tools never had this problem.

I do have an Accuset brad nailer, made by Senco, and it has been good so far.
Anyway, I got the replacement part from Amazon and installed it in the Porter Cable. The nailer seems to be fine now. I wonder how long this plastic part will last before it disintegrates.
