Air Ratchet with Torque dials/buttons.

I'm not a tech so maybe there is such a thing but I can't seem to find one.

Why is it that there is no air (or battery/electric) ratchet that has a knob or a keypad where you can just dial in say 85 lbs (or whatever) then it'll just stop?


Is something like this not practical?

I don't think you could design a mechanism that would accurately measure the torque and shut off an air gun and fit it inside the air gun
Electric might be possible but not practical

They're made for industrial, assembly line users. Very expensive and require frequent calibration checks (daily in critical industries).

Yep.

It can be done, the problem is that the transducers to measure live torque at high speed are expensive. If there was enough volume they might get a little cheaper, but that little feature is probably going to double the cost of your average tool truck electric ratchet, at least.

I'm thinking one day this will be the next big thing they try to push. I mean they already have the "Torque matters" campaign going so heck why not just make a cost efficient automatic ratchet that has variable torque settings.

little by little the tech is getting more common. Milwaukee has the M12 no hub drivers now, albeit set at a certain torque #....but this was unheard of not too long ago, so soon enough. And then I'll take one.

Can you imagine when the technology does get good/common enough to dang near eliminate torque wrenches. Simply dial the number in and hit the trigger.
