Air Supply Setup

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked, but I would like to see the different ways shops have been plumbed for air, what diameter piping, and material. Please share and sorry if this is a duplicate.

I did my 400 sqft shop with 1/2" copper type L , silver soldered joints. ,
ran the pipe horizontally pitched down on each side of the shop , tee'd off that with a riser about 12" and 3/8 ips threaded elbows on that. the low points will have a drain of some sort

I hate to be that guy, but this is one of the most frequently asked questions on this board. If you page back a few pages you'll probably find some recent discussions. You could do a search, but one problem with the software used for this forum is the search doesn't work for terms that are three letters or less (like 'air'.) However, you can use Google to search the board and get much better results:

I used pex 3/4 tubing from compressor making a loop around whole shop, 5 drops at desired locations and adapted down to 3/8 to the different hose fittings. Very happy with the results i had, and its easy to work with.

I used 3/4 Rapid Air in my 40 X 60 shop. It works great and is very easy to install.

1/2" black pipe off the main compressor, up the wall and across the main overhead door, across the wall, down to a filter and then across to a second air tank.

Compressor piping with an air dryer and filter.
This has bypasses around both so they can be serviced without shutting the plant air off.
Compressors are off the the left and connected with flex lines.
Timed drain to drain compressor tanks and air dryer condensation.
3 transmitters (compressor pressure, regulated pressure, compressed air temperature) put out 4-20 mA signals to Bluetooth transmitters so we can keep an eye on things using our cell phones.
This is advanced for a home shop, but shows what can be done.

That's why someone mentioned this is covered ad nauseum. There are lots of pictures in lots of threads already posted for you to look at.

My workshop is a 12 x 16 shed so not a lot of ground to cover. Add to that the fact that I am reasonably cheap. My solution to air anywhere was an idea I stole from someone who posted on here. I have a HF 25 foot hose on a spring reel mounted sideways directly under the surface of the workbench, which doesn't take up a whole lot of space under the bench. The supply hose is a short one over to the compressor which for now sits in the corner. When I get around to it a longer hose or supply pipe will exit the shed and cross to a smaller shed about six feet away . The "round to it" also includes running a short run of direct buried wire to that other shed and the compressor will be much easier to listen to some distance away. The hose reel is plenty enough to pull air where I need it. Later I may go to a more complicated setup but this one is quite handy for the present.
