Air tool connection

Got a paint sprayer with regulator from harbor freight and can't figure out what kind of connection this is.
This connection comes out of the gun into the regulator and then the same short Male connection comes out of the bottom. If I just thread a quick connect on this short thread it leaks even with tape, the connector it needs has a tapered insert.
Any ideas what this is?

I don't think a compression fitting will work/fit.
what's the rest of the gun look like? was there a fitting with the gun that matches the gun? where is the picture of the nut (LH) from? that looks like it will fit the gun.
maybe a silly question, but, did you tighten the fitting up or just hand tight?

Tighten it good, still could hear a little hiss.
The nut is top of the pressure regulator, there is the male thread coming out of the paint gun and identical one on the bottom of the regulator.
I guess I need some sort of nut fitting like that to go to a connector on the air hose.
Don't know what you call that nut type, can't find it at the HW store

try putting it together dry & clean. use some crazy glue & let it wick into the threads. let it cure & see . it might seal it. ( i've had luck)

I would stick an o ring in there and tighten that before I would go super gluing it. If the threads on the body are regular NPT I would probably, and have, replace the oddball stuff.

It's a flare fitting that is pretty much unique to spray guns. Devilbiss uses this a lot on their guns. I use a regulator or shutoff that has the correct taper seat fitting on one end and NPT on the other.

You're right. I said compression but I meant flare as Joe has just pointed out. My bad.
