What's everyone using for oil in your air tools? I heard some people don't use any and swear by it, others use hf/princess auto no name, so that got me wondering what everyone is using.

If I have the time between jobs, I'll go over to my foreman's box and grab his matco branded stuff and put it in my various air tools...

And if you use then day in and day out for a living, it is a good idea to oil then occasionally...especially a 1/2 impact gun...

Currently use the IR oil. I've used several others and don't notice a difference at all. Use whatever you can get as long as it's air tool oil.

I was using Snap-on, rarely, or HF. I noticed that the Aerokroil can said that it could be used for air tool oil so I've been using it lately. The little red tube is easier to use than a squirt can, I can control the amount that I use so I don't have a mess of oil blowing out of the tool.

on another thread over there; there was a concensus that the PB blaster stuff was the best. I bought a can and it is the best I have ever used.

Regular air tool oil when I have it. Most of the time Marvel Mystery oil, good stuff, when I remember. We use Marvel in our air starters on the gas compressors, works good for that to.

When I remember, which is rare, maybe 3x a year, I use BG air tool oil. And that's only because the BG guy dishes it out for free.

ATF when it comes to mind that I haven't oiled them for a while or when our spectacular air system fills my hose with water.

I remember a manager at my previous shop telling me a story of a tech using pb blaster in 3 guns, and they all failed each soon after the other. I've never tried it but that's just what I was told. I personally use marvel mystery air tool oil.

Also be very careful with the stuff! I ruined an ingersoll rand steel body by drenching the insides with the stuff for 3 months. I had just gotten into the business and thought "well if I use a lot it'll keep it really lubed and clean!" Eventually something wore out and the gun would spin on its own (Scary considering the free speed is in the high thousands with an impact socket on it!)

I use a little bottle from sears that is made for air tools. I like this because the bottle has a little spout and is easy to use; I leave it in the drawer with the air tools so I remember to use it somewhat often. I think most any light oil will work OK. A drop or two is all I use so for a couple of bucks it should last years.

I use the IR oil the first time I use an air tool for the day. If it gets a lot of use for some reason I will give it another dose during the day.

Ill be the first to say then, In the last ten years i have not added a drop of oil to any of my tools. And there all just fine, I have a 1/2 craftsman composite impact thats going on 8 years of daily use, still kicks ****. I see no reason to start now.

Right now I got a bottle of MMO air tool oil. Prior to that it was just plain MMO or ATF or my oil can that has 5w30 left over from oil changes.

Oil it when you pick it up, oil it when you put it away. Grease it if the manufacturer recommends it. I've never seen a difference between brands of air tool oil, I think my current bottle is IR but the label peeled off months ago.

My 1/2" impact gets oiled, I don't oil my 3/8" impact much or my air ratchets at all because I use them inside the passenger compartment and don't want to risk getting oil on the seats, carpet, and trim. That being said, they all have over ten years of daily professional use. Yeah, they are all Snap-On, except for the 1/2", which is I/R. Quality pays.

I used to work on macks, at the old shop they had a blue point inch drive for wheel nuts, that thing never got oiled for years, not sure how long, but I was there a year before our new foreman made someone responsible for oiling tools daily, any ways me and another guy were trying to undo some wheel nuts and old blue couldn't do it, so we poured about 100ml of degreaser through the inlet (this degreaser smells like bubblegum) then pumped some engine oil in, tried the nuts, whammo they popped right off, guessing years of **** washed out helped it, was great for another month or so and slacked off again, regular cleaning and lubing does help I've witnessed it day in day out, oh and I use haldex transfer oil, real thin stuff costs about $100 for 300ml lucky I don't pay for it. :lol_hitti

Not what i was asking. Im asking if anyone seeing a lack in performance if it needs to be oiled.

Do you see a lack in performance if you don't change your car's oil?
Are you the type of person who just ignores instructions?

Forget about the manual, there is a reason that the "oil daily" is imprinted RIGHT ON THE TOOL.
