Air tool plugs or caps

Sorry, I looked for the thread where someone was asking about plugs or caps for male air tool fittings. I do store my air tools, not nailers, but other air tools upside down by the male fitting in an aluminum rack that I bought off of eBay. And, the garage can get relatively dusty. It got me looking for the plastic caps that come with nailers, but they were relatively expensive. Also looked for rubber or plastic vacuum line type caps, but couldn’t find anything reasonable. Long story short, #8 exterior, bugle head screws fit perfectly, had them laying around anyway, and when the tools are stored hanging like I have them, seal off the male intake just fine. If I lose one, I have another couple of pounds as a replacement.

A while back, Lee Valley sold a package of what looked like tiny red condoms. They were for capping the end of a partially used caulking tube. They will roll on for a good fit on any small nozzle like an air tool fitting. I had not tried it for that until just now. I don't know if they are still available from them or elsewhere. Works great. See photo.

Those condoms look like a good idea. I just store my air tools the same way I store my firearm barrels. If I know they are going to sit for a while I over oil them before they go back in the box.

I just did a search. They are everywhere, Walmart, ebay, etc. I think I searched for caulking tube cap. I don't know how they would stand up to the air tool oil. I had not thought about that.

I just put a golf tee in the opening. It seems to work pretty well. They are cheap and easy to install/remove.

I like that idea. I don't play golf but I do eat at the Cracker Barrel. LOL!! Just kidding
