Air tool storage

I seem to remember there may be a thread on this subject already, but I couldn't find it.

My drawer is filling up, and I'm thinking about a dedicated cart just for air tools.

Before I go that route, I'd like to see what ya'll have come up with for storing your various air tools.

In addition to the ones pictured, I have a couple rivet guns and a bunch of nailers.

I'm trying to organize them by type of use; construction, automotive, metal working, ect.

If you know about an existing thread, please post link.

Thanks

I know that some guys hang them using cheap quick connectors from the underside of shelves or under/along side of a tool box. Bonus to that is you can organize how you'd like to and you'll instantly know if one is missing if there's an open spot. Downside though is they're exposed.

A bracket like that wouldn't work in my garage, I generate too much dust. All of those open ends waiting for dust to settle into them. Some cheap connectors from Horror Fright and you could make it dust free.

Some you use a lot and some a little. I put the little used out of the way and figure the place to keep the used a lot is the important part. If I use something once a month I am way less fussy about the storage organization than something I grab daily or more. A lot of that stuff doesn't have much of a real "home."
I don't pack up a battery drill, it sits on benches most of the time so it can be seen. Same for 1/2 impact, used every real work day, no point in squirreling it in to some out of the way drawer and if I really need the roofing nailer can go to a back shelf and get it.

Not only air tools but the rest of it as well. Its one of the reasons I don't need a hi dollar roll cab, its mostly for the seldom used and carts keep the things we need at hand. I don't want to open a drawer of 300 wrenches or a 1000 sockets every time I need a 9/16.

I took a piece (pieces) of scrap aluminum and some fittings...drilled and tapped the aluminum...screwed in the fittings.
then mounted the aluminum strip under a cabinet and simply "quik Connect" my Air tools.

I drop some oil in them when I am done, and put them away...No dirt or dust.

I stole that Idea from another GJ member!

I really like that old side cab in the service truck. Funny to think that the "power cab" just came out from snap on a few years back. How old is that box?

i bought it around '90, as a used trade in. thik i paid $75 for it.

i'd guessitimate it's early-mid 80's.

Cheif, the cab is cool and at 75 would be hard to go wrong.

One thing on a truck is I don't have every tool they ever invented with 3 of a kind with different blades on each. Our stuff with a potential to be a daily driver for metal wo0rk gets tosses under the bench and a couple impacts and ratchets with auto tools.
Drive tools get tossed on top of a service cart where needed, I bet my 1/2 impact aint never seen the inside of a drawer.

Is that second one from the end on the right a blow gun?

That looks like excellent quality.

It looks like this but it might be whatever HF copied to make it. It is a good blow gun.

Personally, I would put nailers on pegboard or transport them in a canvas bag, assuming you don't have a card case. I haven't found another storage method that's even close to efficient for them.

My most used (3/8" & 1/2" impacts, air hammer, tire chuck, blow gun) live on my cart in various manners, either drawers or dummy couplers. The rest sits in a big drawer in my toolbox, which is pretty stuffed with a 3/4" gun, 2 straight and a right angle die grinder, and a couple air ratchets. I think my next step is either more spots on the cart for the grinders or a bigger toolbox, though.

Because I use woodworking tools (all kinds of nailers and staplers) more than anything else, I hang all those upside down from hooks on my basement shop rafters neat the work table. I keep the air wrenches I use most in a metal box under a workbench in the garage, the others on shelves or in a drawer.

I don't think normal dust is an issue. Air and electric tools all hold up in terrible conditions. Lots of sawdust might be, but probably not. I have dust collectors and filters for that, because I don't want to breathe it..
