Bottom drawer of the tool box - air hammer in plastic case with bits but others just in there. Growing up we had a 20" (ancient) steel hand tool box we used for air tools - sockets in the top tray and everything else below.

I like the idea of hanging tools, but I also don't want too much clutter. Clutter is a horrible problem for me and I wish I had another garage to hold all the junk that has built up over the years.
I keep my air tools in a deep wide drawer along with a bin of disconnects and other fittings plus Teflon tape to have ready for any new additions or maintenance.
I bought some air tool racks and mounted a cleat to them. Pics are from my parent's garage. Still need to unpack all the stuff in the garage in the new house/garage.
Sorry I don't have a pic but I have a rack similar to what k-os showed in his first pic in post # 8 but longer and slightly different build.
My BIL made it for me at his work on the CNC plasma cutter along with some of his bending and welding. It is very nice screwed onto the garage wall, all the tools are right there and the top is a shelf to hold various air tool bits like die grinder wrenches and such.
Yeah, I work and make dust but I'm not real worried about much getting in the open ends facing up. If your storing them in a body shop with alot of sanding dust, I'd maybe reconsider. I don't have mud dauber bugs here but I bet they could be a problem.
