Air Tool Water Damage

One of my friends has 6 or 7 Craftsman air tools that wont work. He says he oiled them before each use but he thinks theyre damaged from water in the line. Easy fix ?

Instructions say to oil them over every 8 our hours of hard use also after I'm done with the tool I unhook it from the line. I doubt your friend has water damage but heck 6/7 tools not working that sounds strange. If the tool is going to sit for a few days without use oil it before you leave. I don't think it's possible to over oil these new guns but I only oil mine as needed.

Hes got a Devilbiss 2 stage with an 80 gallon tank. The pressure at the end of his line is over 100 PSI. I brought the 3/8 impact home to see if it works in my shop. It is kinda strange. Grinder, ratchets, impact. Nothing works. I'll try it later today and update everyone.

It could be water damage. i repair air ratchets and hammers for a living and if water gets in a tool it could rust it solid. Could be as simple as a rusted bearing to the air motor being seized.

Could there be a clogged filter or separator in his line? You would still get a correct pressure reading but the clog could restrict volume of air to the point the tools dont work.

I wish I could say that Ive got good news. I tried the impact in my garage and nothing. That was at 90psi. It seems like the air is coming out all around the trigger. I might take it apart tomorrow just to see what it looks like inside.

I just put in a filter/water separator because I saw water coming out the exhaust of my pneumatic cut-off tool. I just have a small 33 gallon and didn't think I needed one. I do oil my tools before use, and oiled it again when I saw moisture.

If air isnt making it past the trigger then start there, but if air makes it all the way through the tool and out the exaust then the air motor might be the problem.

Not really worth fixing IMO. Last Craftsman air tool that I had was an air ratchet. When it **** the bed after just one year of shop use, I threw it in the scrap pile and replaced it with a Matco branded Ingersoll Rand. IR stuff does not break much!
