Airbag Jack

Built this jack because I needed one for my trucks. Triangulated the hinges to make the jack stable. If you would like to see the build and a video of it working check out

Wow, that's a very nice jack. I like the way you added the air switch to the handle, too. Is the fitting located on the bottom side of the bag now? I figured that was the reason for using the channel iron. Thanks for sharing the build video and the demo with the BIG trucks. Welcome to the GJ,by the way.

Line is now on the bottom. I didn't have a 3/4" to 1/4" pipe reducer so that was $1.60 of my build. I had to use only one reducer to keep the 90 as close to the bag as possible. The steel on the rails at the bottom is actually solid 1/2"x 1-1/2". Just had the air line in the top for testing. I have been around here for quite a while, just not many posts. Jonathan

nice work. that would be handy...and a little safer than the air bag jacks they used to sell on tv that inflated by sticking a hose on your exhaust pipe!!

I bought a 1913 Camelback drill press from a fellow on practical machinist and he had white a few of them, he offered me a couple for free, so I obliged. He had more and I will be more then happy to see if he is willing to sell them if you would like. They are new and in excellent shape. If he says yeas I will put him in touch with you through this board. I think I seen were these are $290 each new on the net somewhere. Jonathan

Very nice!!! Making an air jack has been been on my to do list for years. I worked at Firestone industrial products years ago and have had a couple air bags kicking around in a box. I really like the triangle hinge idea. Very nice indeed.

Very nice build. A shop I helped out at in Cali had one that they made as well but it eventually blew when a part of the car swung and hit the rubber side (Was sharp enough to puncture just enough for it to blow I guess) I doubt they have fixed it or made a new one yet as they are always busy.

However, after watching the video of yours, I was wondering if maybe you should add a tooth setup that goes over bars on the sides?
Going to try and draw what I have in mind to try and explain it better but basically teeth like you see on the tube benders. So when it is going up, those teeth are going over a bar extended out from the bottom base of the air lift and that way, in case of a fail, it has little locks to keep it from falling all the way down. More like a safety setup.

Good job though, looks great. going to have to search and find an airbag for myself as well. Not as large as all the cars I work on are at max, 4500lbs.

I don't think a safety is necessary, as you should always use jack stands.

First I've seen of this. Thats pretty awesome. I work on mainly cars. I could build one of these using a smaller airbag. Maybe one of the ones they use on trucks for air ride. 1/8: plate would be plenty enough for my cars that weigh no more then 3000 lbs.

Smaller bags are easy to find, but I would recommend new, not used. These bags are like tires and old used tires usually ****. Should be plenty on e-bay. I picked mine up in your town Charlotte, NC. It won't take much of a bag to pick up a car, but bigger diameter = less pressure, so it's easier on the bag the bigger you use. You can flip a loaded semi trailer over with 11 psi and some big recovery bags.
