1937 antique aircompressor info

I am looking at getting an antique sears compressor and was wondering if it is worth it. The info I have is this:

Sears# 102.572
Pump is Montgomery ward (he still has the craftsman pump): f0s9189A/fqs9189A
25 gal tank
1/3 hp made by Leland
He says it is from 1937 and has two 'viewing ports' for the tank so I can look inside.

Questions:

1) Is the HP worth it (no painting or blasting-just a few air tools)? Eventually I would like to do these things though.

2) Parts for the pumps (wards and sears)-where do you get them?

I have not seen it yet and he will get back to me on the specs on Monday. Sorry for not having more info than this.

Mike - With that small of motor hence apparently tiny pump output... and tank age it is not practical to play with.

Maybe if it's a pristine barn find and looks cool, maybe for decor... not use.

That is what I am afraid of. I think it is a single cylinder on both pumps. I would like to get a blasting cabinet at some time. I will leave painting to the pros.

Blasting cab generally speaking wants a true 5hp like 16 cfm.

For small occasional stuff, could get by w a smaller comp.

Recently, in a remote location, I have been temporarily getting by w a Porter cable pancake for $100.. only for small time slow nailgun use, little bit of disc grinder and cutoff tool.

There should be a lot more usable air compressors where you are than that antique. If you don't want to chance buying something off CL, offerup, or similar, find an air compressor shop that sells and refurbishes them, and buy one from him/them. They probably won't be dealing in units < 15 cfm though. But, if you don't investigate, you aren't gonna know.

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/tls/d/san-francisco-quincy-206-air-compressor/6827959208.html a Quincy but probably low cfm

Speed Aire 20 gal two-cyl, w/accessories, portable/wheeled 2 hp, dual voltage 120/240 V

1930Art - If you would like to tell us more details of your near future usage.. we could advise regarding that.

And "Budget" preferred... and capable more $ if a "Deal" that will handle future needs is found ?

Driftpin linked some possibly possible options ... depending on your needs.

I saw this one and the price was right. I would like to in the future have a small cabinet to clean stuff up to a 19" wheel. Also may do some painting of small items like wheels nothing big like a fender. I know I will need volume so I am guessing around a budget of a grand. Used is fine. Most of the time this is going to be hobby stuff nothing to serious.

Thanks,

Mike
