Can Pex tubing be used to supply air? It has a pretty high pressure rating for water.

Yes, it can be used. The main thing is that unlike PVC it is soft and will merely rupture instead of brittle and throwing shrapnel.

Hmmm...... I don't know if I'd plumb that staight out of the compressor though. Remember, the compressed air will be hot at that point and PEX has a good deal of thermal expansion. Also, as the temperature increases, your PSI rating decreases.

I plan to use 1 in sc 80 pvc for the main run into the building. about 20 feet then go to pex. thanks for the input

When you say "into the building" I'm hoping that it is buried or otherwise protected?
